About us

  • This Southern Ocean Model Atlas is designed to provide access to maps and metrics associated with coupled climate model and Earth system model simulations of the Southern Ocean.
  • The Southern Ocean Model Atlas provides images to scientists and the general public who want to see how model simulations compare to one another as well as to observationally-based quantities.
  • We also provide the scripts from which these maps are produced, so that other modeling groups can make similar maps that are directly comparable to the images in this atlas.
  • We are in the process of adding many other maps/metrics to this Atlas (winds, currents, heat, biogeochemistry, etc.) as well as more detailed analyses.
  • Please contact us if there are any maps/metrics you would like to see made available
  • The Southern Ocean Model Atlas works in conjunction with the Southern Ocean Carbon and Climate Observations and Modeling project
  • The Southern Ocean Carbon and Climate Observations and Modeling or SOCCOM's mission is to drive a transformative shift in the scientific and public understanding of the role of the vast Southern Ocean in climate change and biogeochemistry.
  • The Southern Ocean Model Atlas includes the findings of SOCCOM
