Southern Ocean Carbon and Climate Observations and Modeling

SOCCOM is an NSF-sponsored program focused on unlocking the mysteries of the Southern Ocean and determining its influence on climate.

SOCCOM is funded by the NSF Office of Polar Programs (Antarctic Program), with additional support from the NOAA and NASA, and is a collaboration of 23 senior researchers from PrincetonMonterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute (MBARI)Scripps Institution of Oceanography (SIO)University of Washington (UW)University of ArizonaClimate CentralUniversity of Miami Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science (RSMAS)Oregon State University (OSU)NOAA Atlantic Oceanographic and Meteorological Laboratory (AOML)NOAA Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory (GFDL), and NOAA Pacific Marine Environmental Laboratory (PMEL)

  • Housed at Princeton University and administered by the Princeton Environmental Institute, SOCCOM draws on the strengths of teams of investigators across the U.S. as well as participating in international observational andsimulation efforts.
